Model #360 Update

Hooray! I received the first sample of Model #360 back from my machine shop this weekend and, in my humble opinion, it looks great. The nickel-plating turned out the way I was hoping.

Here’s a shot of the top:

My plan is to fill the engraved logo with turquoise-colored ink and hopefully that won’t be as ridiculously labor-intensive as the red ink was on Model #808.

Last of all, here’s a picture of the liberated turquoise sphere waiting for the clever puzzler who figures out the solution:

So although I’d say that’s meaningful progress since I last blogged about #360, I’m not out of the woods yet. I probably won’t receive the full shipment from my machine shop until early next week. And also, #360’s mechanism is more complex than #808’s and requires many parts that I have to make by hand. But even though I will soon be the bottleneck, Model #360 is nearing the finish line!

  1. Congratulations John, it looks fantastic! Very slick and unlike anything else I’ve seen. Can’t wait to give it a try.

    • Hi Mike,

Thanks! I’m working on the blue ink infill for the logo right now (I’ve done about 40 of them) and then I can turn my attention to the internal assembly. So many steps!
