I just returned from the International Puzzle Party (IPP) and it was, of course, amazing. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and between the Covid pandemic and conflict in the Middle East, I hadn’t been to an IPP since 2019 – so attending this year was particularly exciting. One of the highlights of every IPP is the Puzzle Exchange in which each participant brings a puzzle that’s never been produced before and exchanges it for the other participants’ puzzles. This year there were 70+ exchangers so I am now making my way through some excellent new puzzles the world has never seen before.
Similarly, the other participants now have a copy of my exchange puzzle to play around with. I used a Stewart Coffin design (with his permission of course) which he named “Quad Puzzle”. It’s a 2D packing puzzle that he literally dreamt up last October. Here’s what it looks like:
The goal is to fit all eight triangular pieces into the rectangular frame. I added the word “improved” to the title as my frame is slightly smaller (i.e., more compact) than the original Stewart had designed.
I ended up with some extras and have put them up for sale on my Etsy store in case you’re interested in getting one.
